At Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS), service to the community is at the very heart of what we do!
When you think about the fire and rescue service, the first thing to spring to mind is usually a fire engine racing to the scene of a fire, car accident or other incident. But as well as responding to emergencies, our firefighters and support staff are involved in a range of other work designed to bring us closer to people of all ages and backgrounds across the whole of Nottinghamshire.
Work with young people
NFRS works closely with young people and has a range of projects designed to help them realise their potential and achieve goals, as well as keeping them safe from fire and other hazards.
RiskWatch – an interactive programme for school children which teaches them how to avoid accidents and injuries.
Danger Zone – raises awareness among teenagers of the dangers we all face on the roads.
Project Bendigo – aims to prevent anti-social behaviour, including arson, by introducing young people to the work of firefighters.
Work experience – a specially-designed practical placement for Year 10 students Careers presentations – highlighting the range of careers that are available in the fire and rescue service

As part of the Community
NFRS works closely with all sections of the community and regularly supports festivals and events including:
Nottinghamshire Pride
Mela
Caribbean Carnival
Riverside Festival.
NFRS was proud to support IDAHO on 17 May 2011 by flying rainbow flags from Headquarters and four of our fire stations. We regularly talk to groups from all sections of the community in order to get their views on the work that we do, for example when compiling our Equalities Action Plan.

Our service to you
As part of our work to keep all people safe, NFRS has a number of special services available to the more vulnerable and hard to reach members of our communities. These include:
A general enquiries SMS texting service for those who are hearing and speech impaired (text 0115 824 0400)
Special smoke alarms with a vibrating pad or flashing light to alert people with a hearing impairment in the event of a fire.
Our Vulnerable Persons team works with organisations such as the police and social services to identify and help those people who are most at risk of fire.
